Opening day is one of the best day’s of the year, and yesterday proved that with some great games! Here’s a recap of the day…

Pitching- A total of 5 teams were shut out yesterday by great pitching and as a matter of fact, a bunch of pitchers had no hit bids going into late innings like Max Scherzer and Sonny Gray of the A’s!

Suprises of the Day- My biggest surprise of the day was easily Bartolo Colón with an incredible effort for the big 41 year old.  No Mets fans including me wanted Colón to start and wanted deGrom or Harvey. But Colón lived up to Terry Collins’s expectations with 1 ER and 8 K’s only allowing 3 hits. Colón was very composed and if he keeps this up, the mets are in for a treat.

Another surprise was Sonny Gray, pitcher for the A’s bringing a no hitter till the 8th against the Rangers with only 3 K’s. Another surprise was Mr. Hanley Ramirez with 2 home runs vs the Phillies in his Red Sox debut. Hanley had a solo HR and Grand Slam!

NCAA Championship-

Duuuuke! Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils won the title 68-63 over the Wisconsin Badgers who just beat 38-0 Kentucky. This is Duke’s 5th title and all of them are under Coach K. This was a well deserved win for Duke as they kept Frank kaminsky locked up and their Freshman combined for 60 points. Their Freshmen haven’t announced if they will go pro yet! Congrats to Duks on the win!
