Niese ‘s Strong Innings Power Mets to Win

Jon Niese pitched 6.2 strong innings for the Mets last night to earn his 1st win of the year in the Mets 3-2 vs. the Cardinals last night.  It was freezing at the game! Niese’s great performance included 3 K’s and only 1 ER. Kyle Farnsworth got his 2nd save of the year despite almost blowing it in the 9th to a potential rally. Curtis Granderson looks very confident and relaxed now, he got his 1st hit in a while to end his no-hit slump and I think this is a start of seeing the old Grandy. The Mets got their 2 runs in the 4th when Cardinals pitcher Michael Wacha loaded the bases for the Mets and they drew 2 walks for 2 runs. The last run came on a Lucas Duda solo-homer in the 6th.  The Mets have 1 more game of this series against the Cards today at...

Miracle 3 and Buzzer-Beater can’t beat Grizz

Thunder vs. Grizzlies (Game 2): The Oklahoma City Thunder’s miracle 4 point play by Kevin Durant, and Kendrick Perkins’s Buzzer-Beater to put the game into OT, weren’t enough to beat the Memphis Grizzlies last night. The series is now tied at 1. Led by 8 points from Zach Randolph in OT, the Grizzlies pulled out a 111-105 win.  OKC started out slumping when they only scored 16 to the Grizz’s 24 in the 1st quarter. Down by 3 at half and the 4th quarter, the Thunder managed to tie it up in both periods. Disappointingly the Thunder were outscored 12-6 in OT.  Memphis got a huge performance from Mike Conley, he had 19 points, 12 assists and 7 boards in the win. Zach Randolph had 25 points to lead the team in that category. Courtney Lee and Marc Gasol both had 16 points. Tony Allen, Mike Miller and Beno Udrih formed a big 3 last night for the Grizz’s bench. Udrih scored 14 points, Miller had 9 and 6 rebounds and Allen had 8 points and rebounds. The Thunder relied heavily on starters and miracles. Kendrick Perkins laid in a buzzer-beater on an offensive rebound, and KD hit a 3 pointer falling out of bounds (YOU HAVE TO SEE THE REPLAY) and was fouled by Marc Gasol, he completed the “4 point play” on that.  Durant had 36 points,...

Blazers Pull Out OT Thriller

Led by LaMarcus Aldridge’s 46 points (Blazer Playoff Record) and Damian Lillard’s 31 points, the Portland Trail Blazers pulled out a 122-120 OT win vs. the Rockets last night. LaMarcus Aldridge added 18 rebounds to his 46 points. Damian Lillard also added 5 assists to his showing. For Houston, James Harden and Dwight Howard turned in 27 points. Howard got 15 boards and harden dished 6 dimes. Chandler Parsons also had 24. But that wasn’t enough to win the game when Aldridge and Lillard dominated. Nicholas Batum added in 14 in the win and Wesley Matthews had 18. Both teams need MUCH more bench production because there was none of that in this game. Game 2 is on Wednesday in Houston… Other scores… Miami 99 LeBron James – 27 points, 9 rebounds Charlotte 88 Kemba Walker- 20 points, 6 assists San Antonio 90 Tim Duncan – 27 points, 7 rebounds Dallas 85 Devin Harris – 19 points, 5 assists Washington 102 Nene (Hilario) – 24 points, 8 rebounds Chicago 93 Jimmy Butler – 15 points, 7 rebounds NHL: The Sharks bit up Kings goalie Jonathan Quick once again coming back from a 2-0 deficit to a 7-2 win. The Sharks are now up 2-0 in the series. All the goals were by different players. L.A will host game 3… Other games: Rangers 2 Martin St.Louis – 1 goal Flyers...

3 Teams beat the Odds on Day 1

Who saw that coming? 3 of the 4 home teams lost at home yesterday in day 1 of the NBA playoffs. The biggest surprise to me came when the Hawks beat the Pacers by 8. Here is a recap on yesterday’s games… Hawks 101 Pacers 93 The Atlanta Hawks are the only team in the playoffs with a losing record, and still took down the #1 seeded Pacers in Game 1. Jeff Teague had a game high, 28 points in the win and Paul Millsap helped with 25 of his own. DeMarre Carroll had a much needed 10 boards in the win. The Pacers have been struggling lately going 3-3 in their last 6 games. They still snuck out the 1 seed but they need to live up to their high expectations to win it all. It would be a disappointment if the Pacers are upset by the Hawks for this franchise. They aren’t playing like they were and putting up those big numbers. Paul George led the Pacers in: Points (24), Rebounds (10), and assists (5). George should put up those numbers but needs more support from a powerful starting lineup. Lance Stephenson had 19 points in the loss and George Hill had 12. Game 2 is on Tuesday in Indy… Nets 94 Raptors 87 The Nets took down the surging Raptors in Toronto yesterday led by a...

Neiuwenhuis Comes up BIG in Return

With OF Juan Lagares on the 15 day DL for the Mets, they called up OF Kirk Neiuwenhuis from Triple-A Las Vegas to play.  Kirk did GREAT last night going 3-5 with 3 RBI’s and a run including a 2 run blast.   Pitcher Jenrry Mejia got the win for the Mets going 5 strong innings, striking out 3 and only letting up 2 hits, 2 walks, and 0 runs.  The Mets won this game because they got HOT early with 3 runs in the 1st inning and a whopping 6 in the 4th! ALL off new D-Backs veteran pitcher Bronson Arroyo. The game was scoreless for the remainder of the matchup and the Mets won in a blow-out 9-0 game.  The Mets are coming back to life now with 2 straight wins and a 7-7 record good for 3rd in the east.   Tonight Dillion Gee will be pitching for NY and he is looking for his 1st win of the season.  Brandon McCarthy is on the hill for the Snakes, he’s been roughed up so far this season with a 7.78 ERA and 2 losses.  Curtis Granderson‘s injury is not as severe as we thought, he may play in today’s game.  Fun Fact: If the Mets beat the DiamondBacks today, it will be their first sweep of the season and in Arizona since...
