Who saw that coming? 3 of the 4 home teams lost at home yesterday in day 1 of the NBA playoffs. The biggest surprise to me came when the Hawks beat the Pacers by 8. Here is a recap on yesterday’s games…

Hawks 101
Pacers 93
The Atlanta Hawks are the only team in the playoffs with a losing record, and still took down the #1 seeded Pacers in Game 1. Jeff Teague had a game high, 28 points in the win and Paul Millsap helped with 25 of his own. DeMarre Carroll had a much needed 10 boards in the win.
The Pacers have been struggling lately going 3-3 in their last 6 games. They still snuck out the 1 seed but they need to live up to their high expectations to win it all. It would be a disappointment if the Pacers are upset by the Hawks for this franchise. They aren’t playing like they were and putting up those big numbers. Paul George led the Pacers in: Points (24), Rebounds (10), and assists (5). George should put up those numbers but needs more support from a powerful starting lineup. Lance Stephenson had 19 points in the loss and George Hill had 12.
Game 2 is on Tuesday in Indy…

Nets 94
Raptors 87
The Nets took down the surging Raptors in Toronto yesterday led by a combined 48 points from Deron Williams and Joe Johnson. Johnson led the Nets in: Points (24), Rebounds (8) and assists (4). A great start for Brooklyn in this series, I predict them to win this series because Joe Johnson is now playing great and if Pierce, Garnett and D-Will keep up the production, this series is in the bag.
For Toronto, Jonas Valanciunas led the the game with 18 rebounds and Kyle Lowry had 22 points and 8 dimes.
Game 2 is in Toronto on Tuesday…

Warriors 109

Clippers 105

Despite being a #6 seed vs. #3 seed series, this may be the most competitive series of the WHOLE playoffs.  Game 1 was exciting coming down to the final minute. The Warriors had a great game all around with good bench production with 32 points and 21 rebounds. The starters played great. Stephen Curry has his usual masterpiece game with 14 points and 7 assists, David Lee had an awesome game with 20 points and 13 boards. Klay Thompson had 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Jermaine O’Neal added 13 points. Harrison Barnes had 14 points and 8 boards off the bench in the win.  If the Warriors keep this up, this series belongs to them.

The Clippers had a good game but couldn’t just catch up. Chris Paul hit 2 clutch 3’s in the end to still lose, he had 28 points and 8 assists in the loss.  DeAndre Jordan took down 14 rebounds and had 11 points. Blake Griffin played only 19 minutes because of foul trouble and also fouled out in the 4th. He still had 16 points but couldn’t be as aggressive because he was hanging on many fouls. J.J Reddick had 22 points in the loss.  Bench production was not there for LA with only 26 points coming from 4 players.

Game 2 is in LA tomorrow…

Thunder 100

Grizzlies 86

Memphis took a whopping defeat to the hungry Thunder last night despite coming up to a 2 point deficit n the 4th.  Kevin Durant had another great game scoring 33 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. His sidekick Russell Westbrook had 23 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in the win. Serge Ibaka had 17 points and 9 rebounds in the win.

The Grizzlies got 21 points from Zach Randolph and 11 rebounds in the loss, just what they need from him. Marc Gasol and Mike Conley both had 16 points but Conley had 11 assists. Tony Allen scored 13 points off the bench in the loss.   Game 2 is tomorrow in OKC…

Today’s match-ups are below:

Mavericks vs. Spurs    Bobcats vs. Heat   Wizards vs. Bulls    Blazers vs. Rockets…

The Mets just couldn’t beat the surging Braves yesterday losing 7-5 , to put their record under 500 (8-9) once again.  Bartolo Colon took anther loss for the Mets with 3 runs given up through 7 innings pitched. He also struck out 6 batters. Daisuke Matsuzaka let up a run in the 8th on a wild pitch and Jose Valverde let up a Justin Upton, 3 run bomb in the 9th.  In the 8th, down 4-1, the Mets scored 2 runs from a Travis d’Arnaud single and a Chris Young single to make it 4-3. They almost got a 3 run bomb from Lucas Duda but Jason Heyward caught it on the warning track! That could have won it for the Mets. Then down 7-3 in the 9th, The Mets got 2 runs from a David Wright double and Chris Young single and then had the bases loaded with 2 outs and Travis d’Arnaud up! He grounded out on a tough play and the Mets lost 7-5. Braves all-star closer Craig Kimbrel was pulled in the 9th after loading the bases and letting up 2 runs. Jordan Walden got the save.   The 2 problems the Mets have is Curtis Granderson who is in a MAJOR slump going 8-57 in the Mets 17 games. He will bat in the 2 spot today. The Mets need him to come up big with runners on and drive them in.  The Mets should be looking for a new, young closer by now because Jose Valverde is in a slump of letting up homers in his appearances.  he should get that fixed.  Today Zach Wheeler will face off against David Hale of the Braves at 1:10 on WPIX.
