Happy football Sunday! To kickstart a massive Week 16 slate of games that includes by Preseason Super Bowl matchup – the Steelers @ Saints – I have a bit of a hot take.
. . .
Despite the league seeming to be more “open” than ever, I think the Saints are CLEAR Super Bowl favorites.
. . .
First and foremost, their biggest advantage is experience. Brees and Payton have won a Super Bowl together and have been to the postseason countless times, as opposed to all of these young and upcoming teams.
. . .
Secondly, is the home field advantage they’ll have. We know how AMAZING the Saints are at home, and with the Rams’ recent struggles, they’ll more than likely secure home field advantage. Not to mention the Super Bowl is in Atlanta which will bring a TON of Saints fans to the game.
. . .
The third and fourth reasons are their balance. Yes, they’ve struggled on offense lately but I’ll confidently call that a fluke. They’ll get back on the fast track as soon as this week. But the defense? Sheesh, they’ve been awesome. That may be the deciding factor in their Super Bowl run.
. . .
Lastly, the storyline. In a time where Brees is downgraded in the all-time greats conversation, a second title would be massive for his legacy – as well as Payton’s. . . .
My prediction that’s BOLDER than them winning the Super Bowl is that if they do, Brees will retire, and Payton will leave to either coach the Jets or Browns! Bold, but very possible IMO.
. . . . .
