As a Jets fan, let me start off by saying how RUSHED and REACTIONARY our fanbase’s response to this hire was. It’s COMICAL to see how quickly this fan base established the narrative that hiring Adam Gase was the “end of the world”. . . .
They’ve pissed me off SO much that now I need to EXPLAIN why this is a GREAT hire! Please give this a read especially if you don’t agree.
. . . . .
1.) DUE DILIGENCE. The Jets took this long to pick their guy for a reason. They interviewed EVERYBODY! This was not a rushed or forced hire or uneducated one by any means!
. . .
2.) APPROVAL. This one is one of the most under-looked reasons. Per reports, the Jets got the FULL approval by Sam Darnold – who even talked to Gase – and PEYTON MANNING – who personally approached the Jets – to make this decision. That’s something I’m very glad to hear especially with the argument that Gase had poor player-coach relationships.
. . .
3) IMPORTANCE. Jets fans act like this was a BS hire. This hire will decide whether or not GM Mike Maccagnan has a job in ten future since this was his first HC choice. Additionally, this is a crucial hire for Sam Darnold’s development as the current youngest QB in football. I would MUCH rather an experienced QB specific guy to take that job.
. . .
4.) EXPERIENCE. I’ll make a post about this another time (since it’s getting on my nerves so much) but not every YOUNG OFFENSIVE MINDED HC WORKS!!! I’d MUCH rather a guy like Gase who is offensive specialized, and has a plethora of experience in PRO football.
. . .
5.) SUCCESS. People are acting like Gase has been horrid in his coaching so far. He was the QB’s coach for Peyton Manning in his career year, as well as coaching Jay Cutler to a great statistical year in 2015 with Chicago. People don’t give him enough credit for his first HC gig with Miami. He made a postseason with a well-below average squad a few years back, and most recently kept a super young Dolphins team in the playoff mix this year with an inconsistent Tannehill. I’m putting a great amount of blame on Tanny rather than Gase.
. . .
