Tomorrow officially marks a week since the Connor v Khabib superfight; yet the only talk of this fight has been the drama sparked after McGregor tapped out and Khabib remained undefeated.
. . .
To catch up everyone who hasn’t followed the post-fight drama, here’s what’s gone on thus far:
. . .
* Khabib’s team members were arrested by the Vegas police
* Connor wants a rematch
* Khabib apoligized for his actions, and was publicly scolded by his father
* Khabib also went out on Twitter calling out the UFC and threatening to leave the organization
* The UFC has threatened to fire members of both teams, and a suspension is likely in the works for both teams and fighters
. . .
And most importantly, UFC President Dana White is now tasked with resolving this mess.
. . .
Now I’d like to dive deeper into this situation and explain my thoughts on the actions of all parties involved.
. . . . .
DANA WHITE: First and foremost, Dana White should be hugely blamed for this mess, as it’s self-imposed in my opinion. Dana was present for all verbal fights between the two heated fighters, and did NOTHING to prevent Connor from talking badly of Khabib’s family and religion; which ultimately tempted the post-fight brawl.
White allowed this strictly for promotional purposes; yet now he is feeling the downside of that decision.
. . . . .
KHABIB: I can’t even imagine the anger that went through the head of this quieter, dominant fighter considering the abuse he went through from Connor. Though jumping the cage and fighting is COMPLETELY unprofessional and may ultimately cost him his career and winnings. Fight the guy fair and square, and PROVE you’re the alpha dog and to never mess with you again. Handle it in the ring; not on the side.
. . . . .
KHABIB’s TEAM: While Khabib’s actions were extremely wrong, his team’s decision to fight a beat up McGregor is straight up INEXCUSABLE. If they fought McGregor’s team; that’s a different story… but fighting McGregor himself? No excuses. They deserve to be severely punished.
. . . . .
CONNOR: Connor is far from safe everyone. He. deserves a ton of blame for instigating this situation, and going as far as racially abusing a powerless Khabib. Yes, his trash talking benefits him hugely in the ring, and yes Dana could’ve done a better job of preventing it… but there’s no reason why he can’t control himself a bit more. He got his ass kicked and deserved it. Keep your mouth shut.
. . . . . . . . . .
To sum it up, I think a HEFTY punishment should be handed to Connor, Khabib, and the Khabib team; yet Dana certainly owes his UFC followers an apology for his failing actions pre-fight, and his uninvolvement to make a difference.
